Description

Sir Frank Mears & Partners, in collaboration with Stirling Burgh Architect, conceived 1938, realised post-war, circa 1955. L-plan, 2 and 3 storeys, 7-bay, grouped 1-2-4. Block to E polished yellow sandstone ashlar, block to W snecked pink bull-faced sandstone.

N (PRINCIPAL, BROAD STREET) ELEVATION: bay to outer left, slightly advanced with crowstepped gablehead. 4-bays to right 1 floor lower. Flat roof porch addition to right. Windows in each bay at ground with regular fenestration above.

E (BOW STREET) ELEVATION: 3 bays at ground with window in each, regular fenestration above, crowstepped gable to left.

W ELEVATION: harled, small low door to ground at centre, entrance in porch to outer left, door in roll-moulded surround to right of centre, window above to right.

S ELEVATION: 6 bays, outer bay to left window at ground with triangular head dormer above, regular fenestration in adjoining 3 bays, in 2 bays to right regular fenestration.

E (REAR) ELEVATION: 2 bays, large stairwell window to outer right bay with one window above, regular fenestration in bay to left.

UPVC tilt and turn windows, graded grey slates, ridge stack to E with 3 cans and to N at right with 2 cans, gable stack in block to left with 3 cans.

Statement of Interest

Listed for group value with contemporary re-development of Castlehill area. Traditionally detailed modern domestic revival essay.
