Description

Earlier to mid 19th century with later alterations and additions. 2-storey, 3-bay rectangular-plan symmetrical plain classical house with single storey 4-bay gothic style addition to left (S) and 2-storey, single bay flat-roofed addition to right (N). Cement-rendered; harled to left; cement-rendered and lined to right. Moulded cornice between ground and 1st floor to centre group; point-arched openings in group to left. Plain cement margins.

E (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: bays grouped 4-3-1. 3-bay group to centre: brick-base canted, piended, glazed entrance porch at ground in bay to centre; window at 1st floor above. Window at each floor in each bay flanking. Window at 1st floor with attic window and gablehead stack above to left return. Slightly recessed 4-bay group to left: boarded door with traceried point-arched fanlight in bay to right of centre; window in each remaining bay. Window at each floor in slightly recessed bay to outer right.

12-pane timber sash and case windows; large picture windows in addition to N; traceried, pointed-arched windows in addition to S. Grey slate roof; stone ridge; harled, corniced gablehead stacks to N and S; cast-iron rainwater goods.

INTERIOR: not seen, 1997.

BOUNDARY WALLS AND GATEPIERS: harled boundary walls along E front; cement cope; rubble walls along N boundary; corniced square-plan cement-rendered and lined gatepiers to centre of boundary walls.

Statement of Interest

Built for Mr Stanger who owned the shipyard at Ness Point. Subsequently gothic-style addition built and for some time operated as a doctor's surgery.
