Description

Late 19th century. 2-storey and attic, 3-bay villa with Ionic columned portico. Stugged, squared and snecked rubble with coursed rubble to sides and rear, dressed ashlar quoins and margins. Base and eaves courses. Stone mullions and chamfered arrises.

S (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: symmetrical. Centre bay with steps and flanking dwarf walls to portico with pink polished granite columns and pedimented entablature, recessed panelled timber door with plate glass fanlight and flanking coloured glass windows; window to 1st floor. Advanced flanking gabled bays with moulded blocking course over canted windows to each floor; keystoned oval in finialled, scroll-flanked gableheads.

N ELEVATION: asymmetrical fenestration including broad tripartite stair window to centre and window slapping to right at ground.

W ELEVATION: 2 windows to left at each floor, and shouldered wallhead stack to right.

Coloured, leaded glazing to stair window and plate glass glazing in top-opening timber windows elsewhere. Grey slates with decorative terracotta ridge tiles. Coped ashlar stacks with ashlar-coped skews, moulded skewputts and stone finials.

INTERIOR: decorative plasterwork cornicing and ceilings. Screen door with etched glass to hall with Ionic columns and pilasters, panelled dado and corner fireplace with timber overmantel; scale-and-platt, timber-balustered staircase. SW room with timber arcade forming 'inglenook' with timber fireplace and port cupboard. Art Nouveau style coloured glass to tripartite stair window and vestibule windows.

BOUNDARY WALLS AND RAILINGS: saddleback-coped boundary walls with inset decorative cast-iron railings to S; coped rubble walls elsewhere.
