Description

Mid 19th century. Segmental-arched ice house. Stugged coursed sandstone with stugged dressings; tooled sandstone arch over doorways, and tooled coping; grass roof swept down to ground level to SE and to low rubble wall to NW. Boarded timber door to centre of NE and SW elevations. Rectangular well with cement surround (altered) to interior.

Statement of Interest

Thornton Farm ice house would have kept food fresh and supplied ice for Whitehill House (now St. Joseph's Hospital) and home farm (now Thornton Farm), see separate listings.
