Earlier 19th century with later additions and alterations. 2 storey, 3 bay, rectangular-plan Tudor-detailed farmhouse (slightly advanced at centre) with 2-storey wing at rear forming L-plan; lean-to porch in re-entrant angle to rear. Harl-pointed sandstone and whinstone (extensive pointing in part); droved cream sandstone dressings. Droved quoins; raised margins; projecting cills.
SW (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: gabled bay advanced at centre with timber panelled door at ground, 2-pane fanlight, bracketed ashlar pentice canopy; single window aligned at 1st floor; small opening centred in ball finialled gablehead above. Single windows at both floors in bays recessed to outer left and right.
SE (SIDE) ELEVATION: original block with single windows at both floors off-set to right of centre. Lean-to porch recessed to right; single window at 1st floor in 2-storey wing recessed to outer right.
NE (REAR) ELEVATION: lean-to porch centred at ground; stair window aligned above; projecting wing to outer right with single windows in 2 bays at ground.
NW (SIDE) ELEVATION: gabled bay to outer right; 2-storey wing to outer left with single windows at both floors off-set to right of centre.
4- and 12-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows. Grey slate roof; raised stone skews; moulded skewputts. Red brick apex stacks to SE and NW; various circular cans. Cast-iron rainwater goods.
INTERIOR: not seen 1997.
GARDEN WALLS: dry rubble walls enclosing garden.
A modest but well-detailed farmhouse thought to date back to the earlier 19th century. The 2-storey wing which forms an L-plan is shown on the 1857 Ordnance Survey map. Rutherfurd notes a Mr John Edgar as farmer here in 1866.
