Description

Later to late 19th century with alter alterations. Single storey, 3-bay, symmetrical, rectangular-plan cottage built on ground rising to W, with former mill complex (now derelict) adjoining to N; small, single storey random rubble ancillary building (rebuilt later?) to NE. Random rubble. Windows set close under eaves. Deep-set openings.

E (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: boarded door in bay to centre. Window in each bay flanking.

W (REAR) ELEVATION: central window.

S (SIDE) ELEVATION: window set to left; gablehead stack above.

Replacement timber framed windows with top-hung upper lights. Replacement grey slate roof; stone ridge; corniced, rubble gablehead stacks; thack stanes; flagstone path along E elevation with low, flagstone-coped drystone wall; cast-iron rainwater goods to W.

ANCILLARY BUILDING: deep-set door to E; corrugated-iron roof.

Statement of Interest

The former structure which adjoins the cottage to the N was possibly a mill due to the remaining cast-iron gear wheels which are still in place along the W wall.
