Description

Earlier to mid 19th century with later additions and alterations. Single storey, 3-bay, near T-plan, piend-roofed gate lodge with projecting porch to front; flat-roofed addition at rear. Rubble sandstone and whinstone; droved cream sandstone dressings. Base course; overhanging timber bracketed eaves. Droved quoins and long and short surrounds to round-arched openings; projecting cills.

SW (FRONT) ELEVATION: narrow window in piended porch projecting at centre. Single windows in bays recessed to left and right.

NW (SIDE) ELEVATION: timber panelled door in porch recessed to outer right. Piended block advanced to left with projecting bipartite window at centre. Narrow window in subsequent bay recessed to left. Flat-roofed addition to outer left.

NE (REAR) ELEVATION: irregularly fenestrated, flat-roofed addition at centre. Principal block set behind.

SE (SIDE) ELEVATION: narrow window in porch recessed to outer left. Piended block advanced to right with projecting bipartite window at centre. Single window in subsequent bay recessed to right. Blocked window in flat-roofed addition to outer right.

10- and 2-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows; modern windows at rear. Grey slate piended roof. Brick-built ridge stack with paired, corniced flues; circular cans.

INTERIOR: not seen 1999.

BOUNDARY WALL: rubble-coped, rubble wall partially enclosing site(incorporated within core policy boundary wall - see item no 13).

Statement of Interest

B Group comprises 'Mordington House, Boundary Walls, Quadrant Walls and Gatepiers', 'Mordington House, Gate Lodge' and Mordington House, Walled Garden' - see separate list entries. A well-detailed gate lodge set to the W of and still associated with Mordington House (itself rebuilt circa 1974).
