Description

Earlier to mid 19th century with later alterations. Symmetrical 2-storey, 3-bay, rectangular-plan house. Painted render with painted dressings. Base course (incorporating rock in part); quoin strips; plain margins. Single storey with attic ancillary structure to front.

SW (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: glazed modern door at centre; single windows flanking at ground; single windows in all bays at 1st floor.

SE (SIDE) ELEVATION: gable end with single window at ground to left; single window at 1st floor to right.

NE (REAR) ELEVATION: single window centred at ground; single window at ground to left; single windows in all bays at 1st floor; piended dormers to left and right.

NW (SIDE) ELEVATION: gable end with single window at ground to right; single window at 1st floor to left.

Modern timber windows throughout. Slate roof. Corniced, brick-built apex stacks; circular cans.

INTERIOR: not seen 1999.

ANCILLARY STRUCTURE: rectangular-plan ancillary structure/store with later single storey addition to NW. Harled; whitewashed addition. SE (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: gable end with deep-set boarded timber door to right; single window in gablehead above. NE (SIDE) ELEVATION: square-headed opening centred at ground. Later addition to right. Timber sash and case windows; rooflights.

BOUNDARY WALLS: rubble-coped, rubble walls partially enclosing courtyard to front.

Statement of Interest

Prominently sited to the W of St Abbs Harbour (see separate list entry). Particularly notable for the incorporation of rock at its base.
