Description

Late 18th century, with later alterations. Single storey, 5-bay cottage. Rubble; some harl and brickwork. Timber bracketed eaves.

W (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: 2 gabled timber entrances to penultimate bays to outer left and right; timber finials; glazed timber door to right, timber door to left; bipartite window to central bay; single windows flanking to outer left and right.

N (SIDE) ELEVATION: blank elevation.

E (REAR) ELEVATION: single modern window to recessed bay at centre; glazed timber door to recessed re-entrant angle to right; single windows to advanced bays to outer left and right. Corrugated addition to outer left; single window.

S (SIDE) ELEVATION: single modern window to right of gable. Timber door to corrugated lean-to to outer right.

4- and 12- pane timber sash and case windows; modern windows to E and S elevations. Grey slate roof; rooflights; modillion cornice to brick ridge stacks; circular and polygonal cans.

INTERIOR: not seen 1999.

Statement of Interest

Gate lodge to Castle Kennedy Bridge and gatepiers (see separate list description). This lodge in the Lochinch Heritage Estate is of particular interest as it is of earlier date, shown by its rubble walling, yet incorporates the later 19th century detailing found in the other lodges, for example, the timber porches.
