Earlier 19th century. 2-storey, 3-bay near-symmetrical house, with bow-fronted shop at ground. Tooled sandstone ashlar, polished ashlar and painted at ground. Cill course above apron and corniced fascia with blocking course.
NW (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: symmetrical shallow 5-part bow centred at ground, comprising doorpiece with recessed glazed timber door and glazed returns, flanked by plate glass windows; tooled ashlar infilled former doorway to outer left; pilastered doorpiece to outer right, with recessed 4-panel timber door, former 2-leaf, and 2-pane letterbox fanlight. Evenly spaced windows in bays at 1st floor. Flagpole at cill of central window at 1st floor, set at angle, supported by pair of metal brackets set into window reveals; modern wall-hung metal shop sign to outer right at 1st floor.
NE ELEVATION: adjoined to terraced neighbour (9 and 11 High Street, see separate listing).
SE (REAR) ELEVATION: not seen, 1999.
SW ELEVATION: adjoined to terraced neighbour.
INTERIOR: not seen, 1999.
Predominantly 4-pane timber sash and case windows. Grey slate roof, with lead ridge. Cast-iron rainwater goods.
5 and 7 High Street are of interest for their date and survival in a much altered street, as well as for the charming and unusual bowed shop front.
