Description

Rebuilt 1791 and restored 1983. Squared rubble pier with stone steps to northwest and curved end beyond protecting natural inlet. Higher outer wall to S semi-derelict. Cast-iron capstan at pier-head inscribed 'Anderson, Leith Walk Foundry, 1813'. To northwest of pier, squared rubble sea-wall extends along Pettycur Bay.

Statement of Interest

Pettycur Harbour was destroyed by storms in 1725 and in 1748. It was rebuilt during the 1760s and again, with an additional basin, by 1791 at which time the pier was extended and a lighthouse erected. A further low water extension was added by 1819, but the harbour was partially infilled in 1937.
