Description

18th century. Tall sandstone rubble wall; flat coping stones. Square gatepiers in SE wall with pyramidal coping stones. Swept wallhead at gatepiers and at SW corner junction. Gates no longer remain. Remnants of shed walls remain in NE corner.

Statement of Interest

The present Fordel Park house sits upon the site of an earlier house, possibly a mid 18th century James Adam house (possibly 1756) which may have been contemporary with the walled garden. Groome's Gazetteer mentions extensive orchards and gardens at Fordel Park. The 1766 map shows a field of the same shape as the walled garden with a road skirting along the SE and SW margins.
