Description

Later 19th century. 2-storey, 4-bay cottage orne house. Tooled, coursed dark grey granite with contrasting light grey finely finished margins. Base course; projecting cills; gableted windows to 1st floor breaking eaves; overhanging eaves; decorative pierced timber bargeboards to gablets, simple bargeboards to main gables.

SE (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: asymmetrical; gabled penultimate bay to right advanced, 3-light canted window to ground floor, tripartite windows to 1st floor above; timber gableted porch in re-entrant angle to left, 2-leaf panelled and glazed timber door, window to 1st floor above; tripartite rectangular window advanced to ground floor of bay to outer left, window to 1st floor above; regular fenestration to ground and 1st floors of bay to outer right.

NE ELEVATION: gabled, windows off-centre to right of ground and 1st floors.

NW AND SW ELEVATIONS: not seen 1999.

Predominantly timber sash and case windows with small pane upper sashes. Grey slate roof with lead ridge. Coped wallhead, ridge and gablehead stacks with octagonal cans. Cast-iron rainwater goods with decorative top hoppers.

INTERIOR: not seen 1999.

BOUNDARY WALLS: low coped granite wall to SE; coped rubble walls to remainder.

Statement of Interest

Ernan Lodge is an unusually ornamental pattern book style house, a style less common in granite.
