Late 19th century. 2-storey, 4-bay gabled cottage-style house. Tooled, coursed, ladder-snecked granite finely finished to margins. Bipartite windows; overhanging eaves.
S (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: asymmetrical; square entrance tower advanced to penultimate bay to left, window to ground and 1st floors, panelled timber door to right return with letterbox fanlight, window to 1st floor above; gabled bay to outer left with rectangular-plan 5-light window through ground and 1st floors, plate glass door to centre of ground floor. Tripartite window to ground floor of penultimate bay to right; geometric timber balcony between ground and 1st floors, gabled window and window breaking eaves with cat-slide roof to 1st floor. Canted window to ground floor of bay to outer right, gabled window breaking eaves to 1st floor.
E, W AND N ELEVATION: not seen 1998.
2-pane timber sash and case windows. Purple-grey slate roof with decorative terracotta ridge. Coped granite ridge and gablehead stacks with circular cans. Cast-iron rainwater goods.
INTERIOR: not seen 1998.
GATES, GATEPIERS, TIMBER RAILINGS AND BOUNDARY WALLS: pebbled wall with rubble coping to SW; low flat-coped wall with geometric timber railings to S; coursed granite wall with ladder snecking and square-plan rough-faced gatepiers with semi-spherical caps to SE; decorative ironwork gates.
Substantial villa retaining numerous details of interest, including pyramidal roofed entrance tower, decorative ironwork, and patterned timber balcony and fencing. The wall of Struan Hall extends north to the lodge of Aboyne Castle (see separate listing), which is also pebbled.
