Description

Early 20th century. 4-storey, 4-bay tenement with commercial shop premises at ground floor. Polished red ashlar; brick to sides. Dentilled shopfront cornice; dentilled cornice; blocking course. Banded pilasters divide bays; consoled pediments to canted outer bays.

SW (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: modern shopfronts at ground; glazed door to No 212; glazed timber door to No 214; timber door to No 216; glazed timber door to No 218; letterbox fanlights to all; shop windows (not to No 216). 2 single windows to central bays (consoled cornices to 2nd floor) at upper floors; single windows to canted outer bays at upper floors.

Predominantly timber sash and case windows with 4- and 6-panes to upper sashes. Grey slate roof; stone skews; corniced gablehead stacks; circular cans.

INTERIORS: not seen 1998.

Statement of Interest

Dominant 4-storey building in the predominantly 2- and 3-storey High Street. In photograph dated 1905 in OLD AYR (p25) an earlier 2-storey building occupies site of present building.
