Earlier 19th century, with later alterations. 2-storey, 6-bay commercial premises, bowed to street corner. Painted render at ground floor; painted coursed sandstone at 1st floor. Deep band course dividing floors; eaves course; cornice; blocking course.
N (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: grouped, 2-4. Central entrance to bowed 4-bays; pilasters flank double cornice; 2-leaf timber door; letterbox fanlight; flanking shop windows at ground; regular fenestration at 1st floor. Pilastered and corniced infilled doorpiece at ground to 2 bays to left; single shop window to left; regular fenestration at 1st floor.
NW (ALLOWAY STREET) ELEVATION: 5-bay. 2-leaf timber door to entrance to outer right; commercial sign to letterbox fanlight; regular fenestration at ground and 1st floor to bays to left.
Fixed shop windows at ground; modern tilting windows at 1st floor. Grey slate conical roof; stone skew and abbreviated stack to Alloway Street.
INTERIOR: not seen 1998.
An interesting example of earlier 19th century architecture, with its bowed corner and conical roof. Of particular interest is the infilled doorpiece to Kyle Street, with its deep banded frieze and modillion cornice. A 1969 photograph in the NMRS Photographic Archive (AY/2093) shows a plain square-headed main entrance to the building, suggesting the infilled doorpiece provided inspiration for the modelling of the double-corniced main doorpiece to the bowed corner section.
