Description

Late 19th century. 2 storey, 4-bay mirrored pair of houses. Sandstone. Base course; banded rustication at ground floor; dividing band course; 1st floor windows break eaves to form gablets; moulded ball finials rise from square bases.

W (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: central square-headed entrances; glazed timber doors; letterbox fanlights; labelmoulds over; single windows aligned above at 1st floor. Aprons to shallow advanced outer window bays.

N, S AND E ELEVATIONS: not seen 1999.

4-pane timber sash and case windows to No 10, 2-pane and modern windows to No 12. Grey slate roof; stone skews; coped gablehead stacks; polygonal cans. Cast-iron rainwater goods.

INTERIOR: not seen 1999.

GATEPIERS, RAILINGS AND BOUNDARY WALL: iron gatepiers to No 10, square-plan gatepiers to No 12; spear-headed railings divide properties; low coped wall to No 10, higher coped wall to No 12. Additional gatepiers and gate to vehicular entrance to right of No 12.

Statement of Interest

An interesting pair of houses notable for their distinctive detailing, including the 1st floor windows breaking the eaves course; the banded rustication and the apron detailing to the outer bays.
