Description

Circa 1855, with later additions and alterations. 2-storey 3-bay plain classical house. Painted ashlar to front, harled to sides and rear. Base course, dividing band between ground and 1st floors; modules to eaves cornice. Sunburst decoration to pediments.

N (ABBOTSFORD ROAD) ELEVATION: deep-set timber panelled door with rectangular fanlight in pedimented doorpiece with steps to centre, flanked by bracketed and pedimented windows. Corniced and bracketed windows to 1st floor.

W ELEVATION: later window (over dining-room chimneypiece) to ground; single window above.

S (REAR) ELEVATION: single storey piend-roofed later 19th century addition with adjoining structures to ground. Piend-roofed dormer to attic.

INTERIOR: fine decorative schemes of more than one date. Glazed timber inner door and screen to hall; stone stairs with cast-iron balusters and mahogany hand-rail; good decorative plaster-work to all public rooms; plain slate chimneypiece to dining-room, white marble to drawing-room; simple range in basement, possibly formerly kitchen.

Statement of Interest

Subject of careful restoration in the 1990's, having been previously in Council ownership.
