Mid 19th century. Single storey, basement and attic, 3-bay cottage. Grey granite ashlar. Rough-faced granite half sunken basement; recessed aprons; eaves course; eaves blocking course.
S (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: symmetrical; 5 stone steps to chamfered doorway in recessed panel to centre of ground floor, modern door with letterbox fanlight; windows to flanking bays to left and right at ground floor and basement. 12-light rectangular modern dormer to attic floor.
E ELEVATION: obscured by adjoining building.
N ELEVATION: not seen 2000.
W ELEVATION: symmetrical; 4-bay; recessed segmental-arched panel to centre of ground floor with keystone detail, 2 windows within arch, 2 segmental-arched windows to attic floor above, blind panel in gablehead, carved anthemion stone to apex; windows to recessed flanking bays to left and right at ground floor; regular fenestration to basement; single storey granite rubble wing adjoining to outer left, bipartite window to centre, chip-carved consoles above.
Predominantly 2-pane timber sash and case windows. Grey slate roof with lead ridge. Coped gablehead stacks with octagonal cans. Coped stone skews. Cast-iron rainwater goods.
INTERIOR: not seen 2000.
BOUNDARY WALLS: low granite wall to S and W; coped rubble wall to N, with boarded timber gate.
Traditional Aberdeen Cottage in granite ashlar, in the style of Archibald Simpson, who designed many of the houses in this area of Aberdeen. The W elevation has some particularly nice carved details, quite different from the austere principal elevation.
