Late 18th/early 19th century and earlier 19th century with later additions to N. 2-storey and 2-storey and attic; 3-bay; end of terrace house (now with restaurant at ground), formerly 2 cottages. Mullioned tripartite window to 1st floor of single storey and attic W bay (later cottage); shopfront to ground floor of 2-storey 2-bay section to E (earlier cottage). Harled with painted stone surrounds to openings.
S (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: main entrance set back to right section; replacement part-glazed timber door; late 20th century shopfront to right (part-glazed door to left, large window to right); 2 windows to 1st floor. Left bay projects slightly; 2 windows to ground floor; mullioned tripartite to 1st floor; small attic window to gable of right return.
N ELEVATION: gable end of slightly later wing projects to E section; now adjoining formerly separate single storey outhouse in front. Right bay set back.
W ELEVATION: blank gable end to W bay.
8 and 12-pane timber sash and case windows to principal (S) elevation of W bay; 2-pane horned sash and case windows to principal elevation of E bay (large sheet glass pane to shopfront). Grey slate roof to E section; red concrete tiles to W bay. Pair of tall coped harled gablehead stacks to either side of W bay; harled coped stack to rear wing of E section; round cans.
INTERIOR: not inspected (1998).
This property occupies a prominent position on the main street overlooking Lauder Town Hall. The W bay, with its large tripartite window and regular openings, is in keeping with those of the two buildings immediately to the W: 1 East High Street and the Black Bull Hotel.
