Description

Possibly late 18th century in origin with later additions and alterations.

Round-arched rubble coping to rubble wall enclosing site (mutual with Paxton House estate to N; broken in part to SW). Coursed and droved pink sandstone quadrant walls flanking entrance with regularly-spaced, droved sandstone blocks on squared coping. Square-plan, pyramidal-capped, coursed sandstone piers to outer left and right. Taller, square-plan, coursed sandstone gatepiers flanking entrance with corniced, pyramidal caps.

Statement of Interest

Set to the NW of and thought to be contemporary with the earlier Tweedhill House (itself probably replaced in the mid to later 19th century) - see separate list entry. Particularly notable for its tall gatepiers and unusual block detailing. The rubble boundary wall forms an impressive stretch along the road to the Union Suspension Bridge (see separate list entry). The gate lodge just within the entrance dates from the late 20th century and is built on the site of the original structure. Occasional breaches relating to new housing developments.
