Description

William Urquart, 1872. 4-storey and attic 5-bay mansard-roofed Baronial tenement block with shops to ground floor Polished coursed ashlar (painted to ground). Continuous cornice to ground floor shops. Roll-moulded stop-chamfered openings. Moulded string course between 2nd and 3rd floors; 2 shops to right with segmental-arched openings on Corinthian columns; timber panelled door to flats with plate glass fanlight in segmental-arched surround to centre; short section of original brattishing to outer left. 3-storey canted windows above in outer right and left bays; wallhead stack corbelled out on chequer-set machicolations to either side of segmental-arched window to centre, flanked by finialled gabled dormerheads with trefoil panels breaking eaves; 3 timber dormers to attic.

Predominantly 4-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows. Graded grey slates. Corniced wallhead stack with oblique corners.

Statement of Interest

Occupies an important position on the road leading from the High Street to the Meadows, and includes good original shop fronts at Nos 43-45. Forrest Road was developed at the time when the Royal Infirmary was building.
