Description

Earlier to mid 19th century; later additions and alterations. 2-storey and attic, 9-bay range with ancillary structure to SE. Coursed red sandstone to SW, rubble to remainder, polished long and short dressings. Projecting cills; raised margins.

SW (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: asymmetrical; window to central bay at ground floor, flanked to left by 2-leaf sliding boarded timber machinery door, lintel of former

window opening above; boarded timber door to penultimate bay to left, flanked to left and right by single window, boarded timber openings to 1st floor above, rooflights to attic floor above; single window to ground and 1st floors of 4th bay from left; harled gableted porch advanced to ground floor of penultimate bay to right, boarded timber door, window to 1st floor, single windows to flanking bays to left and right.

SE ELEVATION: harled; gabled.

NE ELEVATION: asymmetrical; harled lean-to addition to ground floor; near-regular fenestration to 1st floor.

NW ELEVATION: gabled.

INTERIOR: timber staircase with timber balusters; some skirting boards, architraves, boarded and panelled doors survive.

ANCILLARY STRUCTURE: single storey gabled outbuilding to SW; random rubble with long and short red sandstone dressings. 2-leaf boarded timber door to NW, flanked by window openings. Timber canopy to E. Corrugated roof with inset clear plastic sections.

Statement of Interest

Shown on the 1st Edition OS map as an L-plan office range, which appears to have been truncated to form the current range. The Coach

House is a well composed traditional building with relatively few alterations.
