Statement of Interest

B-Group with Pierowall, Gill Point, Storehouse. Buildings situated on Gill Pier and the later 20th century, L-plan pier to left of Gill Pier are not included in the statutory list. The pier was probably extended southwards in 19th century, and again in early 20th century. Pierowall harbour also served as in important sea plane base during the First World War. The pier and harbour helped provide a safe mooring for aircraft within the sheltered bay.
