Description

Robert Dalglish, dated 1882. 2-storey, Jacobean janitor's lodge house on flat-iron plan, en suite with main school. Stugged ashlar with polished margins and quoins. Roll-moulded architraves to windows, with aprons. Stone mullions.

Bowed, narrow elevation to Eldon Street with bipartite window to each floor, dated, scroll-flanked tablet above cornice.

2-bay side elevations. Entrance portico to side / rear, square-section ashlar columns, entablature and parapet above. Section of ashlar wall adjoining.

Plate glass sash and case windows. Corniced ashlar wallhead stack. Grey slates.

GATEPIERS AND RAILINGS: square-section ashlar piers with panelled neck, cornice and tapered base to ball finial. Decorative, heavy cast-iron railings on ashlar dwarf wall.

Statement of Interest

Dalglish was also the architect of the former Woodside Public School, built at the same date and listed separately. The site of the 2 properties is now divided by the erection of a tall block of flats located in the former playground.
