Description

Later to late 19th century. 2-storey and attic, 2-bay, T-plan, pavilion-roofed villa with corniced scroll-consoled doorpiece, in irregular terrace. Squared and snecked rubble, some Aberdeen-bond, with ashlar quoins and quoin strips, and raised margins. Base and eaves courses. Pedimented and corniced windowheads. Stop-chamfered arrises and stone mullions.

SE (BURRELL STREET) ELEVATION: bays grouped to left. Doorway to left with panelled timber door and plate glass fanlight, corniced window in bay to right, 2 windows to 1st floor, centrally-positioned bipartite dormer window above and shouldered wallhead stack to each return of pavilion roof.

NW (REAR) ELEVATION: advanced finialled gable to left with full-height canted tripartite window with fishscale pattern slated roof, recessed bay to right with pedimented 1st floor window breaking eaves into dormerhead with small carved shield and decorative bargeboarding.

NE ELEVATION: variety of elements including dormerheaded window as above and diminutive triangular rooflight.

4-, 6-pane and plate glass glazing patterns in timber sash and case windows. Graded grey slates. Coped ashlar stacks with polygonal cans; ashlar-coped skews with moulded skewputts. Decorative cast-iron finials.

BOUNDARY WALLS: semicircular-coped rubble boundary walls.

Statement of Interest

No 43 forms the centrepiece, flanked by single storey cottages (listed separately), of an unusual terrace.
