Statement of Interest

Characteristic of 19th century Orcadian housing, this is a typically plain gable ended property, its entrance elevation with 1st floor windows positioned just below eaves. The ground floor window at the 2nd bay may be a later insertion, interrupting what would otherwise be a symmetrical 3-bay arrangement. Although the interior was not seen, the house has been modernised and retains no original features. The names of Patrick Gorie and Elizabeth D Gorie are mentioned in the 1880 title deeds. An appendix in the deeds alludes to a disposition of property in Queen Street from a third party to Patrick and Elizabeth Gorie in 1832. Although unspecified, this appendix could relate to 10 Queen Street (owner's information).
