Dated 1886. 2-storey, 3-bay, rectangular-plan, asymmetrical, gabled Jacobethan office premises in irregular terrace. Squared and snecked bull-faced yellow sandstone with ashlar margins. Long and short quoins. Deep base course, continuous moulded hoodmould to 1st and 2nd storeys. Coped angled skewputts to gable ends. Stone-mullioned and transomed windows, deep chamfered reveals.
E (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: timber panelled door to centre left, bipartite fanlight. Small window in bay to left, leaded glass, inset carved panel above bearing blank armorial shield, dated 1886 below. Bipartite window in bay to right. Wallhead bipartite window with gable breaking eaves, to right bay of 1st floor, smaller tripartite window in bay to left.
W (REAR) ELEVATION: 3-storey, M-gabled, irregular fenestration. 2-storey, flat-roofed advanced bay to left.
N (SIDE) ELEVATION: transomed window to 1st floor, ground floor obscured by abutting building.
S (SIDE) ELEVATION: obscured by abutting building.
Plate glass, timber-framed, sash and case windows. Leaded glass to stair window. Grey slates, lead flashing. Cast-iron rainwater goods; moulded guttering, quatrefoil brackets and urn-shaped hoppers. Moulded coping to gable end stacks.
INTERIOR: bipartite, pointed-arch glazing to inner door. Deep, timber panelled reveals to windows including panelled shutters. Central staircase with turned timber balusters, hand rail and newel posts with mitre-shaped finials.
A good quality, purpose built solicitors' offices, built backing onto a sloping site towards the river.
