Description

Intact 2-storey with attic and basement villa, dated 1906. Set in spacious landscaped grounds behind a plain rubble wall fronting Newton Crescent, and reportedly built as a dower house by the Stewart family (of Stewart and Lloyds, steel manufacturers), whose Aultwharrie House lies to the south.

Distinctive design, with multi-paned windows throughout; essentially a gable-ended rectangular plan with stone-faced full-height Venetian-windowed bay on long, north (entrance) front (remainder entirely harled with ashlar or timber detailing), porch tucked into angle alongside; projecting 4-bayed conservatory on south long-wall over which the main (slated) roof is swept; 2-storey box-window on west gable, lighting drawing room and master bedroom. Casements, set in windows of various designs, including bows, semi-circular and Jacobean-dormered. 3 plain harled chimney stacks.

Inside, the main rooms / spaces are set towards the west; large hall, near full-depth, containing timbered main stair and opening in to conservatory; drawing room to its west (right hand side) is full-depth. Dining room adjoins hall on the left.
