Probably William Simpson, Stirling, dated 1884. 3-storey, 4-bay, rectangular-plan, Baronial tenement with shops at ground, in irregular terrace to N. Bull-faced rubble with stugged ashlar dressings. Ground floor frieze and cornice abutting 1st floor cill course, jettied 2nd floor, eaves cornice. Basket-arched doorway. Roll-moulded openings; crowstepped and pedimented dormerheads; hoodmould; stone mullions.
S (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: angled tower-like bay to outer right with door under jettied 1st floor with bipartite window and further bipartite at 2nd floor giving way to weathervane-finialled conical roof; 2 bays to centre each with 2-part fixed display window at ground (that to left blocked) and 2 windows to each floor above, those to 2nd floor breaking eaves into semicircular-pedimented windowheads; angled bay to outer left with blocked door at ground giving way to heavily-moulded doorhead with relief carved date '18' '84' and bipartite window to each floor above, that to 2nd floor breaking into stepped and crescent-moon-finialled dormerhead with small moulded panel carved with letter 'B' on shield.
E (HOPE STREET) ELEVATION: centre bay with hoodmoulded door and adjacent window at ground, small bipartite to 1st floor and single window at 2nd; window to each floor in bay to right, that to 2nd floor breaking eaves into crowstepped dormerhead.
W (GIBSON'S WYND) ELEVATION: asymmetrically-fenestrated elevation with variety of elements including 3 small pall stones at ground, hoodmoulded door to right and crowstepped dormerhead to left.
Largely 4-pane and plate glass glazing patterns in timber sash and case windows, some windows blocked. Grey slates with tarpaulin covering to W. Coped ashlar stack with cans. Ashlar-coped skews and beak skewputts.
Dean of Guild does not confirm Simpson's hand. The bowed conically roofed tower is repeated at the later Nos 31-33.
