Description

Galt and Barr, 1924. 2-stage obelisk WWI memorial with WWII memorial plaques. Large polished Portland stone ashlar blocks. Stepped 1st stage plinth with vertical panel to SE incised 'TO OUR GLORIOUS DEAD 1914 1918' breaking into 2nd stage and surmounted by bronze wreath incorporating Bo'ness coat of arms; NE elevation incised with 'SALONICA / PALESTINE / MESOPOTAMIA / EGYPT / AFRICA' surmounting inserted WWII bronze panel with roll-of-honour; NW elevation with bronze panel bearing roll-of-honour and 'SALUTE THE MEMORY OF THESE THY SONS WHO FOUGHT & LAID DOWN THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR', this breaking into 2nd stage and surmounted by bronze wreath incorporating armorial panel below sword/cross; SW elevation worded 'FRANCE / BELGIUM / RUSSIA / ITALY / GALLIPOLI' WWII panel as above. Battered 2nd stage with carved frieze and pyramidal cap.
