Description

Early 19th century. 2-storey 3-bay flatted, terraced villa; central door with flanking later shop entrances; later shop windows to L and R; central pediment (missing stack). Lined render with painted margins and raised cills; eaves course. Part brick (later), part ashlar end stack to R gable.

NW (REAR) ELEVATION: semicircular stair tower; later out-of-scale box dormer to R.

Central 1st floor window with original 12-pane sash and case window; flanking 4-pane windows; 2 original windows to rear 1st floor. Grey slates to L half of roof; non-traditional felt tiles to R; stone ridge.

INTERIOR: not seen (2003).

Statement of Interest

Although this building has suffered from some later alterations the essential classically-proportioned form of the building remains evident and the building continues to contribute to the streetscape.The central pediment is a distinctive feature in the town though many of the pediments have lost the ashlar chimneystack and moulded clay cans.
