Description

Possibly early 19th century. Single storey, 5-bay, rectangular-plan, piend-roofed steading. Patchy lime harl over coursed rubble with squared long and short quoins. Voussoirs.

S (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: segmental-headed cart arch to centre with irregularly-disposed doors to flanking bays.

W ELEVATION: single door to outer left.

All doors boarded timber. Grey slates with traditional cast-iron roof lights.

INTERIOR: some original fittings retained including feeding byre with mangers and stone troughs, and some cobbled floors.

Statement of Interest

This small steading, a rare survival with much of its interior intact, was originally associated with the nearby farmhouse now known as Old Union House. The farmhouse was extended and converted to bank premises for the Union Bank of Scotland in or soon after 1843.
