Description

Circa 1800 with later additions and alterations. 2-storey, 2-bay T-plan cottage with gablehead stacks and gabled 2-storey wing to rear. Unpainted, roughcast render to front; whitewashed sandstone rubble to rear. Base course; raised window and door margins. Half-glazed timber-boarded front door; windows in bay to right; Veluxes to roof. Irregular fenestration to rear.

Predominantly 4-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows. Ashlar-coped skews. Corniced, stone stacks with thack-stanes and yellow clay cans. Graded grey slate.

Statement of Interest

A traditional early 19th century cottage, of value to the streetscape. The deeds for No 71 date back to 1801, and it is likely that this house was built at the same time. According to Mr Holbrook, who lives at No 71 (2004), this house was originally single storey, and has been heightened twice. Although No 69 built as a separate house, in the late 19th century it was joined to No 71, when that premises was a Public House. No 69 was completely modernised internally in about 1990.
