This long, single storey, rectangular-plan rubble barn is of 18th century date; it is just located to the N of the main farm steading. The E elevation has two doorways, at the approximate centre and far right, but there are no other openings, indicating that the barn was built for livestock or storage use. The barn was originally cruck-framed and thatched, and although the original roof timbers and covering have been replaced by a pitched slate roof, the lower sections of the cruck frame remain in the inner walls.

Ledard Farm steading has traditionally, for at least two centuries, been the location for the Hairst Kirn; a gathering of the Clan Gregor and its associates to celebrate the completion of the harvest. The Hairst Kirn includes feasting and dancing, and the dancing has traditionally taken place in the Old Barn.
