Description

Loch Lomond And Trossachs National Park Planning Authority

This milepost is one of a series of similar markers between Aberfoyle and Stronachlachar. It dates from the later 19th century, when a massive increase in tourism around Aberfoyle, Loch Lomond and Loch Katrine made the road between Aberfoyle and Stronachlachar a popular tourist route. Set in the grass verge edging the road, the post is hollow cast iron, with two angled faces; the column tapers out to a faceted head which has two panels of raised lettering, one reading 'ABERFOYLE 3 MILES', the other 'STRONACHLACHAR 8 ΒΌ MILES'. The post, made by the Grangemouth Iron Works, is painted white with raised detailing picked out in black.

The milepost contributes to the roadscape.
