Description

Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park Planning Authority Later 19th century white painted cast iron milepost. Hollow with 2 angled faces; column surmounted by wider faceted head with 2 panels of raised lettering, 'CALLANDER 7 MILES STIRLING 23 MILES' and 'TROSSACHS HOTEL 1 ¼ MILES LOCH KATRINE 2½ MILES'.

Statement of Interest

One of a series of mileposts in this renowned scenic area. The massive increase in tourism around Loch Lomond and Loch Katrine in the later 19th century made these roads popular tourist routes and brought forth the necessity for easily recognisable markers for travellers. Likely to have been made by the Grangemouth Iron Works, who were responsible for other similar mileposts in the area.

The milepost is painted white with raised detailing picked out in black.
