History

Mid C18 front to a probably late C16 or early C17 timber framed house, altered in the early C20.

Exterior

Stucco fronted with quoins only on the left, which suggests that the frontage was originally wider, and a Welsh slate roof with ridge tiles. Three storeys, two windows over early C20 shop front. Shopfront has low stallriser, plate glass window with very narrow timber posts on either side, fascia over and door to right. The fascia hides the bottom of the first floor windows, windows are 2 over 2 pane sashes. Tall coped parapet, steeply pitched roof with red brick stack behind to right.
Rear elevation not seen.

Interior

Timber framed interior with well finished chamfered and stopped cross-beams. Only the ground floor was available at resurvey.

Reasons for Listing

Included for its special architectural interest as a multi-period house which is also part of a group of historic buildings in the Monmouth town centre.
