Description

SY 10 SW

5/24 Stable immediately north west of
- Godford Farmhouse

GV II

Stable. Probably late C17 or early C18 and contemporary with Godford Farmhouse
(q.v.). Flemish bond hand-made brick on a stone plinth with a red pantile roof,
gabled at ends.
Plan: Rectangular on plan and on the same axis as the rear right (north-west) wing of
the farmhouse.
Exterior: Lofted stable with a central door flanked by windows with segmental arches.
Loft door in the centre.
Interior: Not inspected.
C18 brick farmbuildings are rare in Devon. The stable, which is almost certainly
contemporary with the farmhouse, faces the road through Godford Cross and is
particulaly important for its group value with the brick farmhouse.
