This magnificent house was built in 1724 for Nicholas, fourth earl of scarsdale.
The architect was Francis smith of warwick.
Lord scarsdale was a member of the leke family.
He died in debt in 1736 and the house and estate were sold.
The house fell into decay in the 1920’s and look like this now.
This is a English Heritage site.
