Description

UPOTTERY RAWRIDGE
ST 20 NW
7/125 Rose Cottage
-
GV II
Cottage. Probably C18 and C19. Plastered local stone and flint rubble, maybe with
some cob; stone rubble stack topped with C19 and C20 brick; thatch roof.
Plan: 3-room lobby entrance plan house. Facing south the end rooms are unheated.
The central room is heated by an axial stack backing onto the right (east) room.
This right end room maybe an addition. The cottage is 2 storeys with continuous
outshots across the rear.
Exterior: irregular 4-window front of C19 and C20 casements with glazing bars. The
front doorway is a little right of centre and now contains a late C19 - early C20
plank door. The roof is half-hipped each end.
Interior: was not available for inspection at the time of this survey.
Rose Cottage is one of an attractive group of listed buildings in the scattered
hamlet of Rawridge.
