Now property of Southern Electricty Board.
Circa 1860/70. Building ranged along side of road with front towards
Monkton Street. Originally part of the Old Ryde Gas Works. Vast hall
rising through two storeys, stone rubble with red brick dressings, and
string course. The elevation are treated rather as a chapel. Gable and
corrugated roof. Red brick pediment takes up whole of gable each end
with large oeuil de boeuf in centre with red brick surround. Three
windows to front articulated by rubble pilaster strips up to pediment with
red brick dressings. Tall round headed windows with close set metal
glazing bars, gauged red brick arches with Keystones. North side has
modern windows, South side has three as on front with similar rubble
pilaster strips to red brick eaves cornice. Low wing extending to East,
in similar style but without windows to North.
