SJ 5707 0584 WROXETER C.P. EYTON ON SEVERN

6/145 Ice house approximately
- 200 metres to north-west
of Lower Eyton

- II

Shown on O.S. map as cave
Ice house, now disused. Probably C18 or C19. Excavated out of natural red
sandstone. L-plan; 2 circular chambers linked by small rectangular chamber.
Segmental-arched entrance to first segmental-vaulted circular chamber,
segmental arch to small rectangular chamber with shelves carved out of the
natural rock; segmental arch from small chamber to inner deeper segmental-
vaulted circular chamber. This was probably the ice house for the large
house at Eyton on Severn of which nothing now remains except a detached
tower and a few walls. Lower Eyton is not included on this list.
