This photo was taken by Dorothy (Davis) Ludwig in 1973 when she was looking for descendents of her Grandfather William James Small's family. William James Small had joined the Merchant Service and "jumped ship" in the New York Harbor at age 15 years about 1859. William James Small married twice in Virginia, USA. His 1870 and 1890 marriage license had his place of birth as Hastings, England and his parents as James and Harriett Small.
