Racquets court, now health club. Built 1858 as part of No.50 Leamington Real Tennis Club (qv). By Mr French. Reddish-brown brick in English bond with continuous rooflights to gabled roof. Rectangular plan. Single storey. East gable end has 6/6 sashes with segmental brick arches; side elevations are plain; rear gable has segmental-arched louvred window set in segmental-arched recess; north wall partly knocked down for access to printing works to rear of No.48 (not included). INTERIOR: suspended floor with swimming pool noted as being raised- above mid-C19 floor with original markings; 7-bay wrought-iron king-post roof with machine-sawn purlins. HISTORICAL NOTE: first called Frost Street, Bedford Street was laid out by 1810, its present name was adopted by 1834. Included as an early example of a covered racquets court, associated with a 'real tennis' club of national renown.
