GV II

Terrace of 7 houses and attached railings. Numbered right to
left, described left to right. c1826-1830 with later additions
and alterations. Pinkish-brown brick with painted stucco
facade and mainly Welsh slate roofs, partly concealed, with
ridge stacks; cast-iron railings.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys with basements, 7 first-floor windows with
2-storey, 1 first-floor-window extension to right.
Stucco detailing includes first-floor band surmounted by
pilaster strips above entrances, frieze, cornice, blocking
course.
First floor: 6/6 sash in tooled architrave to right extension
otherwise 8- and 12-pane French windows with margin-lights,
all with eared architraves.
Second floor: mainly 3/6 sashes with margin lights, to left a
round-arched, narrow light with tooled architrave and
pediment.
Ground floor: 3 and 4 steps to side entrances, part-glazed and
4- and 6-panel doors with overlights, mainly with glazing
bars, tooled architraves, frieze and cornice on brackets, that
to left with pediment but without surround.
Windows: 2/2 sash, 2 canted bays with 4/4 sash between 1/1
sashes; canted bay with 6/6 sash with margin-lights between
2/2 sashes; canted bay with 2/2 sash between 1/1 sashes; 6/6
sash with margin-lights; canted bay with 1/1 sashes; 6/6 sash.
First floor: French windows have anthemion-motif balconies.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: continuous lancet area railings.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Newbold Street was laid out in 1826.
