Bought in 1818 for £10,000 by Sir Walter Scott for his friend https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam_Ferguson_(British_Army_officer) his sisters Isabella, Mary and Margaret also his two brothers John a retired Admiral and Colonel James to live in. Scott only asked that they pay the window tax. Scott would regularly ride over to see his friends.
