This is the birthplace of Richard Cameron (1645?-1680) a leading Covenanter. The militant wing was called the Cameronians after him. They eventually becamr the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles)a Scottish regiment disbanded in 1968.
Cameron was killed at Airds Moss during a battle with Government troops.
