II

Wine and coal tax post. Circa 1861, by Henry Grissell. Metal. Circa 4 foot high.
Four legged plinth chamfered pier above with moulded capital band and pyramidal
top. City of London shield cast on the front. Lettering on pier reads
"24 & 25 VICT/CAP 42". Makers name on rear. A Wine and Coal tax post indicating
the boundary at which duty was payable; that on Coal dating back to the 1660's.
