II*
Late medieval hall, of 1 storey with 2 small dormers resting on eaves; and mid-late
C16 cross wing. Timber framed with varied later filling of old bricks. All timber
on the cross wing is exposed, including beam ends of jettied 1st floor. Very
steeply pitched tiled roofs. Inside the original hall roof is complete, showing
collar purlin and 2 crown posts with longitudinal brackets. Fairly heavy, smoke-
blackened rafters. At lower end the plaster of an inserted smoke bay remains,
heavily blackened within and clean without. Later chimney inserted in smoke bay,
(small joists in hall ceiling lower end confirm this). Cross wing has heavy arch
braces. At left an C18 wing has 1 bay on front, 3 on left return. 2 storeys
and attic. Hipped tiled roof with dormers. Painted brick in English bond, 1st
floor band. Cambered arches to sash windows with glazing bars. Wide proportions,
central doorway. Modern rear extensions closely resembling the C18 wing.
